You can make a Basic Vinaigrette in less than five minutes and it tastes so much better than store-bought dressings. There are two main ingredients oil and acid, so you can mix and match based on what you have in your pantry. For the oil, try olive, avocado, walnut, or macadamia nut. For the acid, use lemon juice, lime juice, apple cider vinegar, balsamic vinegar, coconut water vinegar, or white or red wine vinegar. Or, you can make make an Italian vinaigrette with just a few more ingredients.
Feature Ingredients
Olive oil is consistently linked with health benefits, including reducing cardiovascular disease risk (both heart disease and stroke), Alzheimer’s risk, and cancer risk, improving blood sugar regulation and insulin sensitivity, reducing likelihood of weight gain (and maybe even aid in weight loss), reducing joint pain and swelling in rheumatoid arthritis, and generally reduce markers of inflammation.
Lemons are the most nutrient-dense citrus fruit. They are particularly rich in vitamin C, providing more vitamin C than oranges per serving! Vitamin C has powerful antioxidant properties, along with serving as an enzyme cofactor, and playing important roles in immune system and mental health.
Apple cider vinegar is full of beneficial compounds, including acetic acid, which helps regulates appetite, energy expenditure and insulin sensitivity, with overall anti-obesogenic and antidiabetic effects. Thanks to an abundance of phenolic compounds, ACV rivals other superfoods for its antioxidant capacity – about the same as a super high quality black tea and about 32X higher than dark chocolate!
