Brava! Well written, amusing in places and packed full of great information. Kudos to Dr. Ballantyne for doing a course correct when the paradigm she was using no longer matched the science she was reading. Her latest book acknowledges that approximately “one fifth of people globally are addicted to ultra processed foods.” This makes choosing more nutritious food challenging for many. This, along with the damage that diet culture has done, is discussed. I appreciate that she recognizes from her own life the damage diet culture has done. Nutrivore is a non-judgmental book that guides us to picking better foods for our body. She also discusses how to choose the best foods when cost is an issue. I found this program very approachable. I liked it so much I’m buying the hardback after previously reading the Kindle edition. – Pepper on Amazon
Thanks to my mother, I have been nutritionally aware since I was a boy back in the 70s. I understood the simple notion that what you put in your body matters. Physically, mentally and emotionally. I can’t say my path was straight. I’ve always allowed myself the opportunity to indulge. Knowledge of the nutritional value of food has been collected randomly, and it never felt like it was comprehensive. Nutrivore is an outstanding book at just the right time for me. The first thing that caught my attention was the writing. Felt like a fireside chat with a friend. Never obtuse. Written in a grounded and caring tone. This simplicity is deceptive because some of the material requires rereading to fully absorb the concepts. Dr Ballantyne’s book has armed me with scientifically backed data on making this an easier journey for me. I can plan fabulous meals by varying ingredients and ensuring that, at the end of the day, I will end with enough nutrients to sustain me. It’s the kind of book that I want to recommend & even gift to friends and family on a similar journey: Quality of life. This will be a reference for many years to come. I’m part way through the book, but I am already enthusiastically recommending it to friends and family. In Nutrivore, there are no lists, no points, no right or wrong foods. You don’t need to deprive yourself to feel like you are heating healthily. What Dr. Sarah lays out so simply in this book is that a balanced, thoughtful approach to eating can make you feel better and improve your health. What really struck me was how inclusive Dr. Sarah’s message is. No matter your budget, where you live, or what grocery store is nearby, you can improve your health by thinking like a Nutrivore. This is a book for everyone. Highly recommend! – drb review on Amazon
