Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup olive oil (butter and ghee can also be used)
  • 1 medium onion
  • 15 ounce tomatoes canned
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup red wine vinegar
  • 1 lemon juiced
  • 3 tablespoons honey
  • 1 tablespoon blackstrap molasses
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons mustard powder
  • 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes optional
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper ground

Instructions

  • Heat the oil (or fat of choice) in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the onion and saute until caramelized, about 8 minutes.
  • Add the remaining ingredients and reduce the heat to medium-low. Simmer, stirring occasionally, for 10 minutes.
  • Blend the sauce with an immersion blender or countertop blender until smooth. Store in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
